Finding your motivation for staying on a diet may seem hard, but in truth it isn’t really very difficult. Always remind of yourself of why you want to lose weight - for example, keep focused on how much better your life will be once you lose all those excess pounds, and consider how great you’ll feel about yourself, and how much happier you’ll be overall. Doing simple things like these are the way to achieve lasting motivation.
With that said however, staying on your diet isn’t always a walk in the park. Often it can be easy to get off track and feel like giving up. What’s important is not to allow small obstacles to in your way.
This article contains some simple practices you can put to use to keep your motivation to lose weight, despite setbacks or frustrations along the way.
Don’t Overdo It
This doesn’t mean that you don’t challenge yourself, but you shouldn’t try to overdo it. One of the biggest mistakes that most dieters make is expecting to lose too much weight too quickly. Losing too much weight is not healthy and the results never last. Instead, aim for steady progress and target losing 1-2 lbs per week. Avoid the temptation of trying to lose more then that, and your chances of long term success - and sustained motivation - will be far higher.
Give Yourself Occasional Treats
What’s the point in dieting if you never get to eat a hot dog or scoop of chocolate ice cream? Give yourself a treat day once a week. So long as you only do this occasionally, you won’t be doing your weight loss any harm and it will make the process a lot more enjoyable.
Have Someone Else To Keep You On Track
This one is great. Having a dieting friend of partner will give you that extra motivation and encouragement to stay on track. Likewise, you can do the same thing for them so they do not give up. Having a buddy provides a lot of positive energy and lets people know they are not alone.
Expect Occasional Mistakes
Your dieting expectations should not be set so high that you are not allowed to mess up at least once in a while. Everyone gives into cravings and some people even go off the deep end and indulge for an entire day. That’s probably going to happen to you too. These things happen to us all, and usually very often. Realize that these things can happen and don’t be too hard on yourself when they do, and just keep re-focusing yourself on your goals, and use your mistakes to learn from and improve as you go along.
Maintain A Positive Mental Attitude
What is it that you are trying to accomplish? Keep the image of how you want to look and feel fresh on your mind at all times. Thinking about how much better things are going to be will serve as the ultimate dieting motivation and keep you going in the most difficult of times.
Consider The Consequences of NOT Losing Weight
Do you enjoy being overweight? Of course not. When you’re looking for motivation to lose weight, just think about how much you don’t want the body that you currently have. Imagine how life is going to be if you never get to where you want to be. Don’t allow yourself to become someone who wanted to change, but did nothing and looks back with regret and unhappiness.
The above are just a few great ways to stay motivated while dieting. Finding motivation for dieting is really important if you want to keep going. Giving up on your diet only leads to frustration. A true desire to see positive results will keep you from giving up and ensure that your future is bright and full of satisfaction and happiness.
