Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Fitness centers offer many things to their members. They have a variety of equipment for all kinds of needs. This includes items in the cardio area as well as weight training. They are often well taken care of by an attentive staff. Despite this, some members fail to show good manners.

Odds are if you have been to a gym and used a popular piece of equipment you have found it covered with sweat at least once. This is very unpleasant. This equipment must be shared by many people and they all need to take care of it and some do not.

A gym member should always remember to have a towel to wipe of equipment after they use it. This is just simple consideration of others. Take extra care where you know you have perspired.

Pick up after yourself. This is a special concern in a free weight area. Too many times I have found equipment left out and not put back.

Do not put the burden on the gym staff to keep up with the mess. Do your part and clean up.

The busiest time for a gym is right after work in the early evening. This is not ideal for getting equipment but you just have to work with others. Cardio machines should not be used for an hour when there is a waiting line. Thirty minutes is more appropriate.

Lifting weights may have you allowing someone to “work in” and alternate doing sets with you. There is no need for you to rest on the machine between sets when someone else is waiting. You might even end up with a workout partner from the experience.

Etiquette is underrated and sorely needed at gyms. Do your best to show some and you may end up with someone using some good manners with you.

In addition to using the gym, this author additionally frequently writes about countertop convection oven and four slice toaster.
