Do Sports Bracelets Improve Performance?

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

In recent years, a new piece of kit has appeared on the wrist or ankle of the world’s top sportsmen and women. They look like simple rubber bracelets, but are in fact sophisticated pieces of kit called sports bracelets.

There are many different types of sports bracelets on the market. The latest bracelet has holograms embedded into the bracelet that are said to harmonise your body’s energy, which in turn helps to improve balance, strength and your overall well-being. No scientific studies have been conducted to show if these claims are true or not, but some of the world’s best athletes wear this form of bracelet and have done so for a while, from this you can conclude that they believe that this form of sports bracelet is beneficial.

Older sports bracelets have magnetised metal embedded into a rubber of gel band. The best kind are made with titanium and contain a Alternating North-South Polarity Orientation (ANSPO) system that makes sure the bracelet is effective regardless of how you move. The biggest supplier of this kind of bracelet is Zion Z, who makes many varieties of sports bracelets. They have allowed scientists to study and test their products and early results from Japan indicate that they product does work as the Zion Z says it does.

A simpler form of sports bracelet is the motivational bracelet. They do not make any health claims or improve your body’s flexibility or strength because they are simply coloured rubber or gel bands. They work on the mind rather than the body, the easiest way to describe them is that they are similar to a lucky rabbit’s foot or some other kind of lucky charm. However, sports coaches have found them useful in reinforcing a specific positive message or mantra by forming an association between certain coloured bracelets and that message or mantra in the minds of their team. Wearing and seeing the bracelet during a game enforces and reminds the team of that message. That gives them a mental edge over their opponents.

Whether sports bracelets really do help your performance and health is yet to be determined scientifically. However, many world-class sportsmen and women wear them so it is worth trying them yourself.

How To Eat Cake And Lose Weight On A Fast Diet…

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

Surely a fast diet and eating cake can’t be mentioned in the same breath? Can it really be suggested that successful weight loss can be achieved on a diet of cake?

If you read the result of a current research program then that’s exactly what’s being suggested! You must be thinking though that eating cake is against everything you’ve heard about successful dieting and weight loss… Well, you may be right to think that - or you may be wrong as well…

Let me explain…

It’s often asked whether counting calories is the basis of a successful fast diet… I’’s suggested that eating a healthy diet of mainly non-processed foods is the way of losing weight and a way of keeping your weight under control in the longer term…

Is someone now saying that you’re expected to abandon the healthy diet and start stuffing yourself with cake? Well, no not really but there is a valid point being made by the ‘eat cake to lose weight’ argument…

It’s claimed that the researcher lost 27lbs in 10 weeks by sticking to a diet of convenience store foods… Instead of regular meals he ate every 3 hours. And what he ate sounds appalling but, here it is - 1 Twinkie cake (deep fried) which is a mini sponge cake with cream filling. Plus he ate Doritos, Kellog’s Pops cereal and Oreo biscuits. Along with this one double shot of espresso was allowed each day. A daily multivitamin pill, a protein shake and a helping of vegetables such as a tin of green beans was also consumed daily. The daily calorie intake was kept to within 1800.

The idea behind this project was to show that by limiting calories you can fast diet successfully - and this seemed to be prove successfully by the amount of weight that was lost by the researcher. It was also intended to show that the quality of food you ate was less important than reducing the number of calories consumed. The lack of nutrition in this junk food diet seems to be acknowledged due to the vitamins and protein content that was added to the diet each day.

It had to be a pretty extreme test to show that reducing calories works even if you eat junk food. And you have to agree that ten weeks of eating junky sugar and fat laden foods is pretty extreme… Sure enough, this extreme diet proved that the calorie reduction and not what you actually eat leads to some pretty exceptional weight loss… But is this cake diet the way to go? No, of course it’s not. It’s unhealthy and would probably lead to medical problems if you ate this way. You have to establish a healthy eating regime that you can adhere to most of the time in order to lose weight and keep it off successfully. You need to stick to healthy foods, not cake and you’ll lose weight, slim down and also see your fat and cellulite problems improve.

There Is More To Fitness Than Working Out Each Day

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

It is certainly true that exercise is a vital part of being fit and healthy but it is not all there is to being fit and healthy. There is more to true fitness than simply going for a run or lifting some weights every morning. You need to be smart in every part of your life if you really want to get fit. As you get older, leading a healthy lifestyle and being in good shape becomes more important. How many times, over the last months and years, have you thought “I really need to get healthier” to yourself?

You will be pleased to learn that you can put a few things into action today to help raise your levels of health and fitness. Here are some tips that you can use to help yourself get fit and healthy.

Before you begin putting together any kind of workout plan, talk to your doctor. A professional health care practitioner’s opinion is very important to make sure that you take on the right kind of fitness routine. Your doctor will help you identify the areas of your lifestyle that need the most work. Your doctor will be able to take your history as well as your current lifestyle factors into account when helping you put together your new fitness program. If you haven’t ever followed a workout routine before don’t try to do everything by yourself. Getting a doctor’s opinion of your starting point will help you figure out where you need to go and how you are going to get there.

You don’t have to spend hours and hours at the gym if you want a full workout. You can work your whole body with just a single activity by using the elliptical trainer or rowing machine. Believe it or not, a twenty minute session on an elliptical trainer or in a rowing machine will train and tone your whole body. Spending twenty minutes on the elliptical or rower is equal to spending sixty minutes on three different machines that works each part of your body by itself. Many people will opt to use one of these machines because doing so saves time–they can save multiple hours of working out each day while still helping to increase your health and fitness!

Try Wii Fit! Believe it or not this video game is actually quite helpful in aiding your fitness routine. This program allows you to work out in the privacy of your own home. The game teaches you the basic moves you need to know for most exercises so that if you do decide to take your workout routine public you already have some knowledge handy. Plenty of people are too shy and afraid of looking silly to work out in public. Using Wii Fit helps you work around this problem.Never before has it been so easy to get a full workout in your own home. If Wii Fit is not your thing there are a lot of other fitness programs that work with the Wii system and the balance board.

You need to remember that real fitness involves your mind and spirit as well as your body. There is more to real fitness than a few short workouts each week. Of course, it is better to work out a few times a week than it is to do nothing. Starting slowly and working your way up to regular exercise routines is a great way to start getting fit. If you add the exercise to good lifestyle choices and a balanced diet, you could achieve total fitness very quickly!

The Fast Diet Plan That Suits You A Treat…

Monday, September 20th, 2010

A fast diet tells you to cut out empty carbohydrates, so flour and sugar are definitely for the chop… They’re no good for you or your figure…

What about the fact that carbs are your body’s major source of energy then? Where’s your energy going to come from if you can’t have carbs?

It’s pretty easy to answer that one…

There are some carbohydrates that are good for you and supply your body with the energy it needs. The ‘good carbs’ won’t play havoc with your figure and used properly, these good carbohydrates result in a fast reduction in weight and a better body shape. That’s what we all want, don’t we?

What’s the secret to fast diet success?

No, not really, it’s not exactly a secret. The idea of the fast diet is based on the Glycemic Index of different foods. So, what’s Glycemic Index (GI) of foods?

It’s a fact that not all carbohydrates in foods are equal and they have a profoundly different impact on your body. The Glycemic Index (GI) ranks carbohydrates by how they impact on blood glucose levels in the body. If you eat mainly low GI carbohydrates that produce only small fluctuations in blood glucose and insulin levels the benefit is that you lose weight. Following GI levels is the secret to weight loss that can be sustained and a variety of benefits to an individual’s long-term health.

There’s enormous amounts of information on the internet about GI levels. If you don’t want to have glucose (sugar) build up in your body and turn into fat, which is what happens when you eat high GI level foods, then the low GI choice is the way to go…

Let me give some examples to show different foods’ GI levels:

Green beans GI 15 Broad beans GI 79

Dried apricots GI 31 Fresh apricots GI 57

Multi Grain Bread GI 48 Baguette GI 95

You can see that foods that you would think would have very similar GI levels are, in fact, very different. The advice is that you select low GI foods, but you have to be careful that you don’t think that you can eat as much of these as you like. You can’t — for your fast diet to be effective you have to eat in moderation without starving yourself. If you overeat, even healthy foods, your weight loss can’t be successful.

It’s important for weight loss success that you don’t cut out carbs completely from your diet but to choose low GI foods. There are heaps of low GI foods you can include in your every day eating that are tasty and healthy that will lead to you dropping pounds.

Don’t forget that if you want to lose a large amount of weight take guidance from your doctor before changing your diet dramatically.

So many people want to lose weight and need support and guidance. For free information and recommendations visit fast diet where you will find articles, recipes and up to date scientific findings that will help you reach your goals.

Getting Fit With An Exercise Bike

Monday, September 20th, 2010

There are so many home exercise equipments for losing weight but the most popular is the stationary bike. It is user friendly and light. In addition, a lot of these stationary bicycles are easily folded away for storage.

Training on an exercise bike can be combined with other exercises such as pushups. Say you ride your bike for forty minutes then tone the rest of your body like the muscles in your arms by following up with other exercises. Devise a routine on how you want to do your different exercises. You can interchange them to make them less repetitive. First select the exercise you will do on a daily basis. If you start with the exercise bike training on the first day, on another day start with pushups followed by your bike riding exercise and so on.

Using the stationary bike is definitely a great way to conveniently exercise in the comfort of your own home. Not only do you have privacy, but you also control your schedule.

Training in a gym by using barbells, doing pushups, running, walking, or riding outdoors are equally as intense as training on an exercise bike. They are all meant for the same purpose and that is to keep you fit. It’s a matter of setting a goal and maintaining it. You have the freehand of choosing which method best suits you. All of them require concentration and determination on your part.

Every type of training begins with warm-ups. By doing light exercises, you set the pace for yourself and eventually build the momentum as you go.

Exercise bike training does not necessarily limit you to exercising at home. You can join various exercise clubs. This will make training more fun and interesting since you will be interacting with people as well. When training with an exercise bike you don’t need to concentrate a lot. It allows you to exercise and at the same time have a great conversation with your fellow trainee. Before you know it, you have been riding for an hour. This is just one of the advantages of training with an exercise bike.
