Goal Setting For Weight Loss - Why It’s Important

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Goal setting is an instrumental part of a successful weight loss program. Why?

Have you ever gotten in your car to travel to a new city but didn’t know where you were going? And if you did know what your final destination was, did you forget to map it out so you knew how to get there? Unless you’re on the road for a great and confusing adventure, you answered ‘no’ to both of these questions. Well, the same holds true for weight loss. You need to know what your final destination, or goal is, and then you need to design the road map, or smaller goals, to get there.

Goal setting, as daunting as it might seem at times, is essential to help you achieve success when it comes to weight loss. Aside from helping you design your weight loss program to truly achieve your overall weight and lifestyle goals, setting goals has several other advantages, as well, which are outlined below.

Prioritization: Setting goals helps you to prioritize what’s most important to your program. For example, if you know you need to exercise three times a week to meet your goal, then you can prioritize your life around that goal, like walking during lunch breaks and packing a lunch instead of driving to the local restaurant to eat, in order to lose weight successfully. Plus, losing weight, when on a weight loss program, should be high on your priority list, so set goals and stick to them!

Motivation: Goal setting also helps get you motivated to lose weight. You can get excited about the new and healthy you that’s waiting at the end of achieving all of your goals, and you can (and should) reward yourself every time you meet a goal!

Building self-confidence: There’s nothing better than the self confidence that comes in achieving the goals you set for yourself! And we all know that losing weight can be challenging as we’re often our own worst enemy, but each time you check a goal off because you’ve met it, you’ll feel your confidence climb, and you deserve it!

Staying focused on the end result: One of the key elements to success in a weight loss program is staying focused, and goal setting helps you get clear and focused on the steps you need to take to achieve success in losing weight and keeping it off.

These are just some of the reasons that goal setting is crucial to your success to lose weight as easily and naturally as possible, and why make it harder than it has to be, right? By setting goals for yourself, it will help you to prioritize your life and motivate you to achieve weight loss, help you build self-confidence as you lose weight with each goal that you meet, and help you to stay focused on the end result you desire. With all the benefits, why wouldn’t you do it?

The Importance Of A Weight Loss Coach

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Natural weight loss is an empowering accomplishment, and living a healthy lifestyle means a happier individual, which goes beyond that individual to impact the family, friends, and more. After all, happiness and joy is contagious, so losing weight is a great achievement; or if you’re not quite there yet, it’s a great goal to have.

At the same time, as empowering as it is to lose weight, it can be a bit challenging for many to lose weight and/or keep it off. It’s because of this that many are turning to alternative support methods to help them lose weight, including hiring a weight loss coach; and with the benefits that come with hiring the right coach, it’s not surprising. For example, a good coach will:

Hold you accountable and help you focus and achieve your goals as quickly as possible.
Make losing weight fun.
Be your support through the ups and downs of your weight loss program.
Be there with accolades when you’re on the right track.
Assist with useful tools and resources to guide you and help you with your program.
Help you set the right goals and tailor an approach specific for you.
Create an environment conducive to you meeting your goals.
Educate you on nutrition and weight management in general.

In addition, and maybe most importantly, a good coach will not only help you with the actual diet and exercise program for weight loss, but they get to know you so the program will be tailored to you and include the crucial part of any natural weight loss program, which is ensuring that your mindset is in the right place for weight loss (positive mindset and focus is very important to achieving any goal in life).

Weight loss coaches can be very versatile and dynamic in their approach as well. Many coaches work with companies, families, and health care facilities in addition to working one-on-one with individuals. Plus, a good coach can also assist friends and family members by 1) helping them understand the concerns and challenges and 2) providing them with tools they can use to support the individual focused on losing weight.

Given that we are in a world where a large percentage of our population, including children of all ages, are obese or at risk of being obese, we’re in need of resources outside of conventional methods, such as diets, clinics and fads, that don’t seem to be working for many. Coaches are a great alternative approach for weight loss and healthy living because they tailor their approaches to the individual, family or group, and they use a ‘whole picture’ approach that includes both the mind and body to help individuals truly lose weight and keep it off.

Natural Weight Loss: 5 Critical Tips For Goal Setting

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Yeah. We know. Goal setting usually isn’t the way we want to spend our time, even if we are trying to lose weight. However, when we’re on the path to weight loss, goal setting is a key factor in your success. The good news is it doesn’t have to be challenging or terrifying. Below are some tips to help you in setting goals to achieve the health and body you want, so simply take a deep breath, relax, read and take action.

1. Use the SMART system. Goals should be Specific (S), Measurable (M), Attainable (A), Relevant (R), and Time-bound (T).

For example, you want to lose 50 pounds (S-Specific), and will use a scale to check your progress (M-Measurable), it is realistic and attainable for you to achieve this goal within the timeframe you’ve provided (A-Attainable), it is relevant to your overall goal of health and weight loss (R-Relevant), and you plan on meeting the goal within 6 months (T-Time-bound).

All five aspects of the SMART systems are accounted for in this example.

2. Prioritize your goals. It’s important that you aim to meet all of your goals, but it’s helpful to prioritize your goals so you know what’s most important to achieving success. For example, if you see that you are going to run out of time to fit everything in during a week, what on your list is most important for you to stay on track to achieve weight loss? You can add the other items you missed on the list back in the following week. What’s important is that you’re consistent and always doing something to meet your weight loss goals.

3. Journal and write down your goals. Write all of your weight loss goals down. Keep a record of the specific goals and the activities you’ve done to meet them. Then, look at them daily and make changes as needed. This will help you stay focused and motivated on a regular basis.

4. Be realistic. You don’t want your weight loss goals to be too easy, but you also want them to be achievable, so set realistic goals for yourself. And reward yourself each time you meet them!

5. Develop positive goals. Be sure to keep an open mind and positive mindset when setting goals for yourself. It’s helpful if you state your goals as a positive statement or affirmation. Use affirming words like “I will do this correctly” or “I can meet this goal” vs. “I can’t do it this way or I won’t succeed” and “Don’t be an idiot and slide backwards”. It’s pretty easy to see the positive vs. negative difference between these statements, and it’s important to keep as much positive energy moving as possible to help you achieve your goals easily and successfully.

Again, goal setting is very important to help you achieve natural weight loss. Follow these tips, and goal setting will be smooth and easy and you’ll be losing weight in no time.

Your Mindset May Be Keeping You From Losing Weight. Find Out Why.

Monday, September 20th, 2010

If you’re in a position where you’ve done everything you can to lose weight, but nothing seems to work, or you’ve been successful in losing weight but unsuccessful in keeping it off, the issue or culprit that’s holding you back could lie with the power of your mind.

It’s true. We often don’t realize it, but the power of the mind is, well, powerful. And it’s important to be aware and mindful of this, because it can truly hold the key to helping us to achieve success in any area of our life, including weight loss!

Why?

Whether We Think We Can or We Think We Can’t, We’re Right. As Henry Ford, the founder and former owner of Ford Motor Co., once said in not so many words, whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right, meaning that if you think you can achieve something, you can, but if you doubt or think you can’t, then you most likely won’t achieve your goal. That’s the power of the mind. So it’s very important that you believe and think you CAN lose weight (and you can!).

Negative thoughts bring about negative results, and vice versa. If you’re negative all of the time, then you’ll get negative results, or more negativity, in your life, which means a more challenging time losing weight. If you step back and observe, you’ll notice that the negative people often attract more negative people, places and things, where positive people attract positive people, places and things. Our goal is the latter to help with weight loss (or any goal in life), so focus on positive thoughts and surround yourself with genuinely positive people.

The right mindset helps with clarity of goals. By focusing on shifting your mindset to attract natural weight loss into your life, it will also make it easier to get clear on what your goals truly are around weight loss and healthy living. And the clearer you are on your goals, the easier it is to achieve them. But if you are of a negative mindset, and always talking down about yourself, it makes getting clear on your goals more challenging, because quite frankly, it’s harder to care about life and weight loss when you’re coming from an unhealthy place. Again, we want weight loss to be as easy as possible, so we need a good mindset for clarity around our goals so we are clear on the life we want-which is a happy and healthy one!

The truth is, losing weight can be challenging for many, so why make it harder than it has to be? Adjusting your mindset to ensure you’re attracting positive results, as stated above, is a crucial step in achieving your weight loss goals (and sticking to them!). And weight loss can be enjoyable when approaching it from this “mindset”.

3 Steps In Creating The Proper Mindset For Weight Loss

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

It often eludes us that our mindset is responsible for our success, or lack thereof, in achieving goals we set out to accomplish in life, and this includes weight loss. Everything we want to accomplish in life begins with the power of thought, and with that being said, it should be understood that the types of thoughts we think are important. By focusing on the following three tips to help shift your mindset to a positive mode, you’ll be well on your way to achieving your weight loss goals.

Surround yourself with positive thoughts and people. To reiterate, a positive mindset is essential to moving forward and accomplishing your weight loss goals. Use creative visualization or positive affirmations, for example, to help you shift your mindset to focus on the positive. You also want to be mindful of who you surround yourself with as this will impact your energy and how you think.

In addition, love yourself and be gentle! You are human, so if you’re having a bad day or happen to be a bit of track with your weight loss goals, it’s OK. Love yourself, accept your humanness, and get back on track with a hug and gentle nudge.

Be clear on why you want to lose weight. It’s very important that you’re very clear as to why you want to lose weight. If you’re doing it for someone else, then you’re most likely doing it for the wrong reasons. You’re the most important person in your life, and in order to focus on you and your goals, it’s essential you realize this. Plus, when you’re losing weight for someone else, you’re putting yourself in a position of possible disappointment because of how the other individual will respond, and if it’s not positive or how you expected, it can put a damper on your overall success.

Set reasonable goals. If you set yourself up for failure by setting unrealistic goals for yourself, then you’re definitely making weight loss harder than it has to be for you. When we don’t meet goals, it often puts us in a negative mode of thinking and we beat ourselves up, so set realistic and reachable goals, and be sure to reward yourself every time you meet a goal! AND, if you do happen to miss a goal, again, be gentle on yourself, love yourself, and simply nudge yourself to get back on track to continue to strive to meet your goals (because at some point, you will!).

Life is meant to be fun, even when you’re on a weight loss plan! These tips are sure to help you shift your mindset to a positive mode of thinking that will help you achieve all of your life goals, including weight loss. And by maintaining a positive mindset, you’ll be able to maintain your new health, happiness and body much easier, too!
